Hello from the “Lovely Literacy Ladies”!   Welcome back Hubbell Hounds and families!  We would like to share the following suggestions from “Parent Tip Sheets” that will help your child develop their analytical skills by digging deeper into fiction genres:

First, you can talk about the Who, What, Where, When, Why and Hows of the story-telling, along with discussing what problems came up in the story and how they were resolved.  Next, you can ask your child “What it…” questions.  For example:  What if it was you or me in the story?  What if the story happened 100 years ago? Today? 100 years in the future?  You can also analyze characters by asking him/her to identify the personality of one or more of the story characters and compare/contrast with their own personality.  Lastly, you can have your child retell the story from one character’s point of view.  The above tips will help your child improve his/her verbal skills as well as strengthen their analytic skills.  Setting time each day to read and have conversations can create special memories that last a lifetime! Happy Reading!!
